PEAK

Compare · WeTransfer

Peak and WeTransfer both send files. Peak is built around the shoot.

WeTransfer is the quickest way to hand anyone a link: nobody signs in, and on Ultimate there is no limit on size. Peak's transfers are made for a photographer's delivery: sent from the library or the desktop, opened by name, and free for client work, with 10 GB live at once for up to 7 days.

What Free gets you, on each

WeTransfer's Free plan is for individual, non-commercial use: 10 transfers or 3 GB in any 30 days, each online for up to 3 days. Starter raises that to 300 GB over the same 10 transfers, still for 3 days. Ultimate removes the limits on size, number and expiry.

Peak's terms set no such limit on Free, and it counts no transfers per month. What it limits is what is live at once: 10 GB across your transfers, each for up to 7 days. End one, or let it expire, and the space is yours again. Pro holds 250 GB for up to 90 days; Max sets no limit on what is live, each transfer for up to 1 year.

For one large delivery without a subscription, a Peak transfer can be unlocked once: $2.99 for 100 GB over 30 days, or $4.99 for 250 GB over 90 days.

Who opened it, by name

A WeTransfer link opens for anyone, with no account. On a link transfer you get one email the first time it is fully downloaded. Its Access Control, listed under Ultimate, shows who downloaded and when: by email for visitors who identified themselves, as Anonymous for the rest.

A Peak transfer asks the person opening it for an email address and a six-digit code. That is one step more for your client, and it is what lets Peak show you, for each person, whether they opened the transfer and whether they downloaded from it. You are emailed at the first download, then at most once an hour.

Sending a shoot, not a folder

Peak sends from three places: files dropped from your computer, a selection in your library, or a whole collection. From the library nothing is uploaded again; the server copies the originals into the transfer.

From the computer, the link is yours as soon as the files are declared, before the upload finishes. A client who opens it early sees every picture, with “Still arriving” on what has not landed yet.

  • Photos and videos shown as pictures, a video played from a 720p copy
  • Any other file too (the contract, the invoice, a PDF), as a tile to download
  • Download one by one, or all at once as a single zip
  • On an iPhone, the photos saved straight into Photos
  • The GPS location taken out of the files on request, without re-encoding

When the link expires

On WeTransfer, expired transfers can be recovered on Ultimate, Teams and Enterprise, when Recoverable was on: files under 256 MiB for up to a year, larger ones for up to 90 days.

On Peak, an expired transfer can be recovered on Pro and Max for 1 year after it closes. On any plan you can move the date while a transfer is live, or end it at once, which deletes its files.

Where WeTransfer is the better choice

When the person receiving must not be asked for anything: a WeTransfer link opens without an account, Peak's does not. When one transfer is bigger than Peak's pool: Ultimate has no limit on transfer size. And when you need what Peak does not have: passwords on transfers, a page where anyone can send files to you, a price on a transfer paid before download, and apps for iPhone, Android and Mac.

When the client has to choose

WeTransfer's Reviews and Portals were closed and their contents deleted in December 2025; what remains are comments on previews. In Peak, a delivery with a choice in it is a room: the client picks, gives 0 to 5 stars and comments on each frame, and sends you the selection. The finals go out afterwards as a transfer, addressed to the room's people.

Questions

Is Peak free for client work?
Yes. Peak's Free plan has no non-commercial clause and no monthly count of transfers: it holds 10 GB of live transfers at once, each for up to 7 days. WeTransfer's Free plan is for individual, non-commercial use, with 10 transfers or 3 GB in any 30 days.
Is Peak cheaper than WeTransfer?
For one large delivery, often yes: a Peak transfer can be unlocked once for $2.99 (100 GB, 30 days) with no subscription. Peak Pro is $24 a month, which also keeps your library and opens client rooms. WeTransfer's pricing page lists Starter at €8 and Ultimate at €23 a month, billed monthly, in euros.
Does my client need an account to download from Peak?
A free one, made as they open the link: they type their email address and a six-digit code sent to it, with no password. A WeTransfer link needs no account at all, which is the main thing Peak gives up to tell you who downloaded.
Do Peak and WeTransfer keep the original files?
Both deliver the files as you sent them. WeTransfer zips several files losslessly; Peak lets the client download them one by one or as one zip. Only Peak can take the GPS location out of photos before they go, when you ask it to.
