Compare · Dropbox, WeTransfer

A folder link delivers files. A room delivers a shoot.

Dropbox, Google Drive and WeTransfer move files well, and all three let people comment on them. What none of them is built around is the step in between: a client choosing.

The trouble with a folder

A shared folder is a list of file names. The client scrolls, writes “I like 4182, 4190 and the one with the dog” in an email, and you match it up by hand. A comment on a file helps; it is still not a selection.

What each one offers today

WeTransfer lets people comment on the files in a transfer. Its client review spaces, Reviews and Portals, were shut down and their contents deleted in December 2025. Its Free plan is for individual, non-commercial use — 10 transfers or 3 GB in any 30 days, online for 3 days.

Dropbox and Google Drive share folders that open without an account, and take comments. Dropbox’s review tool, Replay, handles stills and approvals, but is free for only a handful of files and a paid add-on beyond that.

What a room adds

Everything that sits between sending and receiving:

  • Picks, 0 to 5 stars and comments on each frame, with # to point at one in the conversation
  • An activity view: who came, what they chose, the frames chosen most
  • Downloads off, one by one, or the whole room as a single zip
  • An end date you set, and an email when somebody arrives or writes
  • The GPS location removed from the files on request, without re-encoding

Where a transfer link is simpler

A WeTransfer or Dropbox link asks nothing of the person receiving it. A Peak room asks for an email address and a code — that is what makes the picks and comments theirs. For a delivery with nothing to choose, a plain transfer is the lighter tool; Peak’s own version of it is on the list.

And the shoot stays in order

The room is made from your library, so the shoot is already rated, tagged and in a collection — not in a folder called final_FINAL_v2.
